With the NFL trade deadline approaching in less than two weeks, the Dallas Cowboys are facing numerous challenges with their 2024 roster.
While a trade might seem necessary, it’s essential to remember that Jerry Jones is at the helm, which often leads to inaction being the likely outcome.
However, if the Cowboys are indeed focused on making a push for the 2024 season, one clear area for improvement is their struggling defensive line.
Currently, the team averages 2.3 sacks per game, ranking 17th in the NFL.
Their performance in stopping the run has also been subpar, allowing 859 rushing yards this season, which places them 27th in the league.
In this context, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler recently reported that the Chicago Bears are considering trading pass rusher Dominique Robinson.
This news caught the attention of Cowboys fans, as the team is short on pass rushers.
“The Bears are also weighing trade options with pass rusher Dominique Robinson, who could use a fresh start elsewhere.
Teams like the Cowboys, Cardinals, and Commanders are currently lacking depth at the pass rusher position.”
Robinson, a fifth-round pick in 2022, has found himself pushed to third string following the Bears’ acquisition of Montez Sweat.
Originally a receiver at Miami (Ohio), he has potential but will require development to reach his full capabilities as a pass rusher.
According to NFL.com’s scouting report on Robinson, he is a “wideout turned quarterback hunter with the physical tools necessary to establish a productive career as a 3-4 outside linebacker or a 4-3 rush end.”
His raw skills, combined with impressive athleticism, allow him to quickly disrupt the pocket.
The report highlights his quickness off the snap and ability to bend and maneuver around offensive linemen.
The Cowboys have encountered difficulties at defensive end, particularly with Micah Parsons dealing with an injury, although he is expected to return soon.
Chauncey Golston has performed well on the edge, but 32-year-old DeMarcus Lawrence is currently sidelined due to a foot injury, and rookie Marshawn Kneeland is out until November with a knee issue, showing his inexperience.
While Robinson has long-term potential, the Cowboys’ current focus is on immediate results, making it uncertain whether he would be a suitable fit for their needs at this point in the season.
