The attorney representing Jameson Williams asserts that he is unlikely to encounter any criminal charges.
Attorney Todd Flood spoke to WJR Wednesday morning regarding Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams. Flood believes the former first-round draft pick is unlikely to face criminal charges related to an incident where he and his brother were stopped with concealed firearms in their vehicle.
Reports indicate that police are currently investigating the situation but ultimately let Williams go without an arrest.
According to WXYZ-TV, the Detroit Police Department submitted a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, with Williams facing a potential charge of carrying a concealed weapon in a motor vehicle. On WJR, Flood explained why he thinks criminal charges are improbable.
“The gun’s properly registered,” he said. “He’s not the driver; his brother is. There was a CPL holder in the car, which aligns with standard protocols and suggests no criminal charges will be filed.”
The Lions released a statement acknowledging they were informed about the incident shortly after it occurred. “Jameson notified us immediately that he was a passenger in a routine traffic stop on October 8th,” the statement read.
“We discussed the incident with him and have kept the league updated. We understand he was released without incident or citation. The Detroit Police Department is revisiting the matter, and Jameson has retained an attorney, so we will not comment further to respect the legal process.”
