James is set to miss at least a month because of a sciatica issue. He mentioned he will take an “extremely careful” approach to recovery and expects to be reassessed in three weeks. For now, he’s making sure the extra downtime won’t go to waste.

Everyone knows the Lakers forward appreciates the finer pleasures in life: a glass of quality wine, a smooth cigar, a perfect round of golf, and, as it turns out, a fresh pack of NBA trading cards.

A well-known trading card brand shared a video of James opening a pack. The 40-year-old legend looked as thrilled as a kid again, smiling and saying, “This really takes me back to being young.”

“I’m a really careful card pack opener. You never know when you might pull something special. Gotta keep it clean,” James said. “Haven’t done this in 16 years.”

Naturally, he couldn’t resist smelling the pack—true fans know the feeling.

“Still smells amazing too,” the four-time MVP added with a grin.

As he flipped through the cards, James discovered one featuring himself, which only fueled his excitement.

“The best pull you could get! Gotta include him!” the Lakers veteran laughed. “That’s awesome.”
