Alex Anzalone Deletes Social Media Post Amid Contract Uncertainty With Lions

Alex Anzalone has once again sparked discussion about his future with the Detroit Lions after deleting a series of social media posts that appeared to criticize the team’s social media department.

Anzalone, who has spent five seasons in Detroit, is set to become a free agent when the new league year begins next month. His contract situation has been under the spotlight since training camp, when he briefly held out while expressing disappointment over the lack of a long-term extension. Although the two sides reached an adjusted deal for the final year of his contract, no long-term agreement was completed.

On Sunday, Anzalone reacted to a Valentine’s Day-themed highlight video posted by the Lions, which featured several defensive pass breakups from the 2025 season. Despite recording a career-high nine pass breakups, none of Anzalone’s plays were included.

“Had a career high (9 PDs) and not 1 made it,” Anzalone wrote on social media. “And other free agents were on the video, too.”

He later replied to a fan who praised him, adding another comment directed at the team’s social media group: “Apparently not our social media team! They don’t know how to behave.”

Anzalone followed up by saying he has “always had beef” with the Lions’ social media team, using emojis to suggest humor. Still, the remarks fueled speculation about his relationship with the organization and his potential departure in free agency. All of the posts were later deleted.

Throughout his time in Detroit, Anzalone has been active on social media and has occasionally hinted at uncertainty about his long-term future with the team. Despite the current situation, he remains a respected leader in the locker room and a fan favorite.

If Anzalone has played his final game in Detroit, he will likely be remembered as a key figure in the franchise’s turnaround from NFC North struggles to legitimate Super Bowl contention. His leadership and emotional connection with fans — including a heartfelt message published in the Players’ Tribune following the 2023 NFC Championship loss — have solidified his place in Lions history.

As free agency approaches, Anzalone’s next move will be one of the most closely watched storylines for the Lions this offseason.
