Safety Brian Branch has rejoined the Detroit Lions after serving a one-game suspension for sparking a postgame altercation with the Chiefs in Week 6.
Branch appealed the suspension, but the ruling was upheld, forcing him to miss the team’s Week 7 victory over the Buccaneers. With a bye week following that game, his return to action comes this week, and Branch said Tuesday that the experience will serve as extra motivation for the remainder of the season.
“A lot of motivation,” Branch said, via the team’s website. “It’s another chip on my shoulder they just added. I do want to apologize for what I did, that’s something I don’t condone, and will never happen again, but [the suspension] definitely added another chip to my shoulder.”
The Lions managed to win without Branch in Week 7, but they’ll be eager to have him back — provided he channels that added edge into clean, disciplined play between the whistles.
