Cameras Captured Patrick Mahomes’s Subtle Taunt Toward Brian Branch After Chiefs Touchdown

The Chiefs appeared to regain their rhythm after cruising to a dominant victory over the Lions on Sunday night, though the win was overshadowed by Detroit safety Brian Branch instigating a postgame altercation with JuJu Smith-Schuster.

After the game ended, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes extended his hand toward Branch for a handshake, but the Lions defender refused. Instead, Branch walked over to Smith-Schuster and slapped him across the face, triggering a heated exchange between both teams.

Branch later apologized for the incident, calling his behavior “childish.” Still, he hinted that officials overlooked questionable plays by Kansas City, saying, “I’m tired of people doing stuff after the whistle and refs don’t see it. They were trying to push me around out there.”

One clip that has resurfaced since Branch’s comments shows Mahomes apparently taunting him after scoring a touchdown in the second quarter.

As Mahomes crossed the goal line, Branch gave him a slight shove, prompting the quarterback to spin the ball toward him. Mahomes then pointed at Branch and made a brushing motion across his jersey.

That sequence likely wasn’t what directly set Branch off after the game, but it may have fueled his irritation in the 30–17 defeat. Branch was reprimanded by Detroit’s coaches for his outburst and could face a fine or disciplinary action soon.
