Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell couldn’t have been more thrilled about securing Aidan Hutchinson in Honolulu Blue for the foreseeable future.
After Hutchinson signed a massive four-year, $180 million extension, Campbell shared his reaction with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, praising the Pro Bowl edge rusher’s total dominance and leadership across every phase of the defense.
“Hutch is one of our cornerstones! He’s a complete player,” Campbell said. “He locks down the edge against the run, pressures quarterbacks in the pass rush, and shows great instincts when asked to drop in coverage. Complete! Fired up to keep him here long term!”
That statement captures exactly what Hutchinson represents to the franchise. Since being drafted second overall in 2022, the former Michigan Wolverine has become the face of Detroit’s defense—a tireless pass rusher, respected leader, and essential piece in defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard’s system.
Through seven games in 2025, Hutchinson has tallied six sacks, four forced fumbles, and 48 total pressures, placing him among the NFL’s most dominant defenders. His new contract makes him the league’s second-highest-paid edge rusher, trailing only Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys.
For Campbell, the move is about more than just production—it’s about locking in the core identity of his football team.
“Complete,” Campbell reiterated. With Hutchinson signed through his prime, Detroit’s defense is built to remain that way well into the future.
