David Montgomery’s sister to have meaningful presence for Lions RB against Bengals in Cincinnati
The Detroit Lions’ standout running back is heading back to Cincinnati, his hometown, for a Week 5 showdown with the Bengals.
But this trip isn’t just a return home.
I5t’s also a special opportunity for his sister to watch him play.
“I think this means a lot to me because my sister gets to come to the game,” Montgomery said earlier this week, via Pride of Detroit. “About a year and a half ago, on Valentine’s Day, my sister was in a terrible car accident. Now she’s paralyzed from the neck down. She obviously can’t move, but this will be the first time my sister can actually see me play live. I’m super, super excited about that, and I’m just really happy she’ll be there.”
Montgomery was a local star at Mount Healthy High School in the Cincinnati area before shining at Iowa State in college.
Until now, he has only faced the Bengals as a visitor away from his hometown.
“I think it’s going to be really emotional,” Montgomery said. “I’ve never played in Cincinnati since I left, so that’ll be cool. Playing against the team that I grew up watching, that was my team. I’m a hometown kid, and a lot of my family members will be coming.”
The Lions continue to take advantage of their strong running duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and Montgomery.
In this matchup, Detroit may look to help Montgomery reach the end zone.
Many of his loved ones will be cheering from the stands, and even though the Lions are the visitors, there will be plenty of Cincinnati pride if Montgomery scores in front of his home crowd.
