Detroit Lions: Bold Week 6 predictions for Sunday night showdown against the Chiefs

Go back to the beginning of the 2023 season. The Kansas City Chiefs were fresh off a Super Bowl victory and were lifting their championship banner before their passionate home crowd at Arrowhead Stadium. The Detroit Lions were the visitors for the NFL’s season opener.

Although head coach Dan Campbell assured Lions fans that his squad was on the rise, most believed they would simply be target practice for Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the explosive Chiefs offense.

Campbell knew otherwise. The Lions had displayed grit and intensity all through training camp, and he understood that his players relished the chance to take on the reigning champions on their own field. Detroit opened the season with a 21-20 stunner over the Chiefs, a result that announced to the league that the Lions were ready to emerge as one of the NFC’s elite teams.

Fast forward to Week 6 of the 2025 campaign, and the Lions are back to face the Chiefs once again. Now, Detroit stands as one of the top two teams in the NFC alongside the Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City remains a dangerous opponent but is wobbling with a 2-3 record. Each of their three losses has come by a single score, and head coach Andy Reid is searching for a spark to get his team back on course.

The Chiefs remain 2.5-point home favorites, yet both clubs seem to be trending in opposite directions. The Lions have rattled off four consecutive victories since falling in their opener at Green Bay, and their offensive depth poses serious problems for Kansas City’s defense. Quarterback Jared Goff, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, dollarreceivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, and tight end Sam LaPorta combine to form one of the NFL’s most balanced and dangerous attacks.

Mahomes will try to reignite the Chiefs’ offensive rhythm, but it’s hard to see the home team matching the Lions’ overall firepower.

Here we’ll break down three bold predictions for the Lions-Chiefs showdown in Week 6 of the 2025 NFL season.

Lions QB Jared Goff will pass for 250-plus yards and 3 touchdowns

Detroit has no intention of easing up against the defending AFC champions. Campbell and his players sense an opportunity, with Kansas City’s early struggles making them ripe for exploitation.

The Lions love striking quickly from the opening drive, and it wouldn’t shock anyone if they scored on their first possession. Goff blends pinpoint accuracy with sharp field vision, allowing him to expose weaknesses in any defense. Provided his offensive line holds firm, Goff will pick apart the Chiefs’ secondary.

Detroit currently boasts the league’s highest-scoring offense, averaging 34.8 points per game, and they could approach that total again here. Goff is projected to throw three touchdown passes — one each to St. Brown, Williams, and LaPorta — as he dismantles Kansas City’s celebrated defense.
