Detroit Lions’ Maxx Crosby Dream Takes Unexpected Turn After New Report

The Detroit Lions and their fan base have long dreamed about pairing star pass rusher Maxx Crosby with Pro Bowl defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.

For years, the idea of bringing Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to his home state of Michigan felt unrealistic. However, heading into the 2026–27 NFL season, that scenario may no longer be far-fetched.

For the first time since Crosby entered the league, a potential trade appears possible. With the Raiders potentially entering a rebuild, Detroit could emerge as one of the teams interested in acquiring the elite edge rusher.

Still, while the possibility of a Crosby-to-Detroit move has generated excitement, a new report suggests there may be reasons for the Lions to approach a potential deal with caution.

Report Suggests Maxx Crosby Could Leave Las Vegas

According to a report from Michael Silver of The Athletic, Crosby may be ready for a fresh start away from Las Vegas.

Silver reported that the Raiders could consider trading the star defender as they prepare for a possible roster reset.

“With Las Vegas staring at a significant rebuild, and set to draft quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick, it would be foolish not to look to the future,” Silver wrote.

Crosby, who will turn 29 next summer, is still one of the NFL’s most dominant pass rushers. However, the Raiders may view him as a valuable asset who could bring back significant draft capital.

Silver also noted that a deal could realistically happen around the start of free agency.

Practice Habits Could Raise Concerns

While Crosby’s elite production makes him an attractive target, Silver’s report also highlighted behavior that has reportedly raised eyebrows within the Raiders organization.

According to multiple witnesses cited in the report, Crosby occasionally violated one of football’s most important practice rules by making contact with quarterbacks wearing red non-contact jerseys.

One source told Silver that Crosby’s mentality was essentially: “If you don’t want me to do it, then block me.”

The report suggested that multiple Raiders coaches — including Jon Gruden, Josh McDaniels, Antonio Pierce, and Pete Carroll — struggled at times to control Crosby’s intensity during practices.

While that relentless attitude is part of what makes Crosby an elite defender, it could be something teams like Detroit evaluate carefully before pursuing a trade.

Raiders Still Value Crosby

Despite the rumors, Raiders general manager John Spytek recently emphasized that the organization still views Crosby as a key piece of the roster.

Speaking during the NFL Scouting Combine, Spytek said he expects Crosby to remain with the team.

“Maxx is an elite player,” Spytek said. “We’re in the business of having really good players on the team, and we need a lot more of them.”

However, Spytek also made it clear that the Raiders remain open to listening to trade offers if the right opportunity arises.

Would the Lions Make the Move?

For the Lions, acquiring Crosby would instantly create one of the most feared pass-rushing duos in the league alongside Hutchinson.

However, Detroit general manager Brad Holmes has traditionally avoided committing major financial resources to the edge position. Because of that philosophy — along with Crosby’s potential trade cost and contract demands — Detroit may hesitate before making a blockbuster move.

Still, if Crosby truly becomes available, the possibility of pairing him with Hutchinson will undoubtedly keep Lions fans dreaming.
