The Detroit Lions just secured their fourth victory of the 2025-26 campaign, and they’re officially red-hot. The team hit the road on Sunday, October 5, for a high-profile matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, and they walked away with a commanding 37-24 win. Even the Bengals had to acknowledge how dominant the Lions looked away from home, noting that “quarterback Jake Browning fired three fourth-quarter touchdown passes, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Lions’ top-ranked offense in Detroit’s 37-24 triumph.”
With the game wrapped up and the stats rolling in, the Detroit Lions had some major Jared Goff news to share. It’s no secret that Goff has been a central piece in helping the Lions reach their current level of success. Despite losing offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Goff continues to prove he’s an elite quarterback, guiding the team to a 4-1 record this season.
In a wild NFL twist, after the Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills both lost over the weekend, no team remains unbeaten. That means the Lions are now tied for the league’s best record.
Following the win, the Detroit Lions made a big — and positive — announcement about Goff. The team’s official PR account on X posted, “Lions QB Jared Goff has tied an NFL record by completing 70% of his passes in six consecutive road games.” That’s a remarkable feat.
While it’s not rare for Goff to make history, tying an NFL-wide record instead of just a Lions franchise one makes it even more special. The Lions clearly have a winner in Goff, and — without jinxing it — this could finally be their year.
“Most underrated QB in football,” one fan commented. “And people still think he’s a fraud,” another joked, emphasizing how legitimate Goff truly is.
The Lions also announced that Goff earned their ‘Player of the Game’ honor. One fan replied, “Great win, guys… keep biting them kneecaps.” Another wrote, “When teamwork combines with grit, anything is possible.”
Last season, Goff posted a career-best 72.4% completion rate, and he’s clearly maintaining that elite form. In Sunday’s matchup, he went 19-for-23 (82.6%) for 258 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions — a flawless performance.
Jared Goff is Finally Getting His Due
It’s long overdue for Goff to receive the credit he deserves. In the NFL’s Week 5 Power Rankings, released Tuesday, September 30, Eric Edholm placed the Lions at No. 3, with Goff being a major factor.
“Detroit wasn’t explosive offensively against Cleveland, but no team has been this year,” Edholm wrote. Still, this marks the second time in four outings where the Lions have been somewhat limited on offense, even while protecting the football well. Five offensive penalties were unusual, and Detroit is still working to perfect the chemistry between Jared Goff and Jameson Williams.
It would be great to see Goff and Williams build on that connection, as Edholm noted, but a win remains a win. The Detroit Lions are roaring louder than ever — and the NFL is taking notice.
