Downgraded”: Detroit Lions Deliver Tough Update On $60 Million Starter

Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker underwent offseason shoulder surgery, and the issue resurfaced following Week 1. He has appeared on the injury report since Week 2, missing eight of nine practice sessions during the last three weeks. Still, Decker has played through the pain every game so far, showcasing his grit and determination.

For the third straight week, Taylor Decker sat out the full slate of practices, leading the Lions to list him as questionable for Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Per Adam Schefter, the team has now downgraded the veteran tackle from questionable to doubtful, marking a major potential blow to the offensive front. Detroit will reveal its inactive list 90 minutes before kickoff, finalizing Decker’s status.

The expectation is that Giovanni Manu will make his first career start at left tackle, with Decker unlikely to suit up. The 2024 fourth-round pick has logged only seven snaps in 2025 across his two-year NFL career after sitting out his rookie season. Manu faces a daunting assignment in Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, a tough matchup for any lineman.
