The woman charged with causing the crash that killed Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson and two of his childhood friends has confessed in court and now faces time behind bars.
Cori Imani Clingman, 25, entered a guilty plea on Friday in Prince George’s County Circuit Court, admitting to three counts of negligent homicide while under the influence of alcohol.
The deadly wreck took place just after 3 a.m. on July 6, 2024, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Jackson, a 2024 fourth-round draft pick from the University of Oregon and a Maryland native, was one of three victims.
Prosecutors said they will ask the court to impose a 15-year prison sentence, though 12 years would be suspended, meaning Clingman would serve three years if the judge approves the deal. Sentencing is scheduled for February 4.
Killed alongside Jackson were his former Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School teammates — 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel, who was driving, and 24-year-old Anthony Lytton Jr., a passenger. Clingman was also a Wise High alum.
Speaking after the plea hearing, State’s Attorney Tara Jackson emphasized that the tragedy was not a random event:
“Crashes like this are not accidents — they are preventable. Driving while intoxicated and speeding are both crimes that destroy lives.”
In a separate written statement, she added that although the plea brings accountability, it “cannot erase the pain or bring back Khyree, Isaiah, and Anthony,” and urged the community to recognize how dangerous reckless and impaired driving can be.
Investigators said the group had met earlier that evening at Famous Lounge Restaurant & Bar in Upper Marlboro, where they had drinks before leaving in separate vehicles.
Clingman was reportedly driving her Infiniti Q50 at over 100 mph when she tried to pass Hazel’s Dodge Charger on northbound Pennsylvania Avenue. Instead, her car collided with the Charger, forcing it off the road and into several tree stumps.
Hazel and Jackson were pronounced dead at the scene, while Lytton succumbed to his injuries at a hospital shortly after. Clingman and her two passengers were unharmed, as was the driver of a Chevrolet Impala that was also hit during the crash.
