It feels like ages since Matthew Stafford last suited up for the Detroit Lions, and some fans would prefer not to look back on those seasons. While Stafford was a talented quarterback, those weren’t exactly the Lions’ most successful years.
Eventually, it became clear that change was needed, and Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in a blockbuster deal that sent Jared Goff to Detroit. The trade worked out for both sides, but Stafford’s immediate Super Bowl win with the Rams stung a bit for Lions supporters. Still, Detroit has since found plenty to be proud of on its own.
Even though the Rams recently lost to the 49ers on Thursday Night Football on October 2, Stafford continues to shine this season. At 37 years old, he’s performing like he’s still in his prime. While 37 isn’t necessarily old, it’s definitely seasoned for an NFL player. Stafford currently leads the league with 1,503 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes, topping the charts in both completions (122) and attempts (183). Simply put, he’s playing some of his best football in years.
But life isn’t just about the game. Off the field, Stafford is a devoted husband and father, while his wife, Kelly, has built her own platform as a podcast host. Recently, though, Kelly revealed some major personal news that has fans talking.
Kelly, who hosts The Morning After podcast, revealed that she’s stepping away from the show temporarily to focus on her mental health and rethink its direction. On Thursday’s episode—featuring executive producer Kyra Stevens in place of co-host Hank Winchester—Kelly explained that she’ll be taking about a month off to spend time with family and decide what’s next for the show.
“I wanted to let everyone know that I’ll be taking a break for about a month,” Kelly said. “I’ve just been struggling with where I see this going. Obviously, I have four daughters and a husband, and this podcast is another one of my babies. I love it, but not as much as them.”
She continued, “It’s been taking up more time than I expected. So, Kyra and I are going to use this month to brainstorm and figure out our next steps.”
Kelly went on to explain that she started the podcast to “create a community that embraces imperfection and supports each other instead of judging.” She added, “I’ve leaned on you all, and I hope this show has been something you could lean on too—whether for laughter or comfort in knowing that life isn’t perfect and that’s okay.”
Kelly Kept the Decision From Matthew Stafford
Kelly also shared that she didn’t tell Matthew about her plans ahead of time. “For now, it’s really about my mental well-being,” she said. “It’s also midseason, and with some changes happening on the podcast, I just feel like I need to step back and figure out the plan. This isn’t the end—I just need a little time.”
For now, loyal listeners will have to find another favorite podcast while Kelly takes her much-needed break.
