Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, now leading the Chicago Bears, is reportedly upsetting multiple NFL figures following his team’s dramatic playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.
The Bears pulled off a historic comeback victory over Green Bay at Soldier Field in the NFL Wild Card round, advancing to the Divisional Round where they will face Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams. However, Johnson’s postgame celebration has quickly become one of the most talked-about moments of the postseason.
Ben Johnson’s Locker Room Comments Upset NFL Coaches
During the Bears’ locker room celebration, Johnson was caught on video delivering an expletive-filled message directed at the Packers.
“F— the Packers,” Johnson shouted. “F— them! F—ing hate those guys!”
According to ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager, the video did not sit well with several people around the league — including Rams head coach Sean McVay, who is close friends with Packers coach Matt LaFleur.
Schrager shared his perspective during an appearance on The Ringer, emphasizing how the video and Johnson’s refusal to walk it back escalated tensions.
“The utter disrespect and the brazen locker room video — and then doubling down on it — that’s the WWE part of the NFL,” Schrager said. “I think Sean McVay wants to kick the snot out of Ben Johnson, and Ben Johnson has no problem with that.”
McVay’s connection to the situation runs even deeper, as his offensive coordinator in Los Angeles is Mike LaFleur, Matt LaFleur’s brother.
Ben Johnson Refuses to Apologize
If anyone was expecting an apology, Ben Johnson made it clear that isn’t happening.
The Bears head coach doubled down on his comments, citing the long-standing rivalry between Chicago and Green Bay.
“There’s a rivalry that exists between these two teams, something that I fully recognize and I’m a part of,” Johnson said. “I don’t like that team.”
Johnson also emphasized how much the moment meant to the city of Chicago.
“It was our first playoff game at home in a long time, and we hadn’t won one in about 15 years,” he added. “When Chicago plays Green Bay, it means everything to this city, this organization, and our fans.”
Bears vs Rams Set for Snowy Divisional Round Showdown
Despite losing twice to the Detroit Lions during the regular season, the Bears secured a playoff spot for the first time in years and stunned the Packers in comeback fashion.
Meanwhile, Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams advanced by defeating the Carolina Panthers in their Wild Card matchup.
The Bears and Rams will clash in the NFL Divisional Round at Soldier Field, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. Snowy conditions and frigid temperatures are expected, setting the stage for a physical, high-stakes playoff battle — and a personal showdown between two elite offensive minds.
