The Detroit Lions have experienced a major transformation since Dan Campbell took over as head coach. After spending many years near the bottom of the National Football League standings, the franchise has rebuilt its identity and emerged as a competitive team in the NFC.
The Lions even set several team records during this stretch. Although the 2025 season concluded with a modest 9–8 record, the two seasons before that highlighted the depth of talent assembled on Detroit’s roster.
Despite the team’s progress, one former player has expressed frustration about how his time with the organization ended.
Former Lions Offensive Lineman Speaks Out
Former Lions offensive tackle Taylor Decker recently shared a message on social media revealing that unexpected conversations with the team eventually led him to ask for his release.
Decker’s Time in the NFL
Decker entered the league as Detroit’s first-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft after playing college football at Ohio State Buckeyes football. He went on to spend his entire 10-year career with the Lions, becoming an important piece of the team’s offensive line during the organization’s recent resurgence.
During his tenure, Decker started every game he played in, totaling 140 starts. He also earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2024 and even caught two touchdown passes over the course of his career. Because of his consistency and leadership, he developed into one of the more popular players among Detroit fans.
The details he shared about the communication between himself and the organization have surprised both supporters and analysts.
Looking ahead, it remains to be seen whether Decker and the Lions will eventually repair their relationship in the months or years to come.
