‘Great to see him again’: Aidan Hutchinson sets tone on defense vs. Browns

Aidan Hutchinson spearheaded the Detroit Lions’ defensive effort in their 34-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Hutchinson delivered steady pressure, recorded two sacks and forced a fumble in Week 4. Detroit’s defense opened poorly, allowing its fourth straight opening-drive touchdown of the season.

But they clamped down afterward, shutting Cleveland’s offense down. With tighter man coverage, Hutchinson capitalized against a Browns line missing two starters.

NFL Pro charting showed Hutchinson producing both sacks and three of his nine total pressures in under 2.5 seconds against tackle Cornlieus Lucas. That was a matchup he should win, but it underscores this team’s identity, and that Hutchinson rarely eases up against weaker competition.

On MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast, hosts Ben Raven and Kory Woods broke down the defense’s dominant day, plus special teams’ contributions and an offense that found explosive plays in Detroit’s third consecutive victory.

“When you’ve got Aidan Hutchinson, you’ve got something most teams dream of. Today was proof of what (general manager) Brad Holmes kept saying this offseason: ‘Other teams would pay anything for that guy. And we’ve got him,’” Raven explained on the podcast.

Through four games, Hutchinson already has four sacks. His nine pressures were the most in a single game since Week 4 of last season, prior to his injury.

The fourth-year edge rusher is tied for third in the NFL with 23 pressures across four games, per Pro Football Focus. He ranks inside the league’s top five at his position, including fifth in pass-rush grade. Hutchinson is disrupting offenses at an elite rate, with two forced fumbles in his last two outings, and remains a standout against the run.

“He can do everything that makes the highlight reel, but he handles the gritty stuff too,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said afterward. “He’s got nonstop energy. He never quits on a snap. He’s physical. He’s violent. He’s smart. He’s disciplined, and seeing him healthy again is huge. Honestly, it’s just great having him back, period. Man, we really missed him last year.”
