How Dominik Szoboszlai’s love life changed following his ex’s decision to stay away from Liverpool
Dominik Szoboszlai is flourishing both in football and in his personal world as he embraces married life and fatherhood. The Liverpool star wed Borka Buzsik earlier this year following a fast-paced romance.
The couple went public with their relationship in July of last year, shortly after Szoboszlai’s Hungary exited Euro 2024 in Germany. By October, the midfielder had popped the question at a luxury Budapest hotel.
Their wedding took place in March, with Szoboszlai confirming the news on Instagram by posting elegant black-and-white shots from the ceremony. His simple caption read “2025.03.25” accompanied by a red heart.
Only six weeks back, the pair announced the birth of their first child, a baby girl. Sharing a heartfelt snap of their hands holding their newborn’s tiny fingers, Szoboszlai wrote: “Your arrival means everything to me. Thank you, my love, for bringing her into our world! [red heart emoji].”
Buzsik prefers a quiet lifestyle, with just 13 posts on her Instagram — mostly featuring her and her husband — though she already boasts 84,000 followers. One throwback post from 2022 shows her in graduation robes after completing her degree at Corvinus University in Budapest.
Before meeting Buzsik, Szoboszlai had dated model, influencer, and former tennis player Fanni Gecsek. The two are believed to have met in 2020 while he was with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
Gecsek once pursued a career in professional sport. Between 2017 and 2019, she played in ITF tournaments, which serve as the pathway to the WTA circuit. Eventually, she left tennis behind for modelling and digital media, where she highlights her glamorous lifestyle.
She has nearly 85,000 Instagram followers and splits her time between Milan and Budapest, per her bio. Like Buzsik, she is well-educated, holding a Master’s in Luxury Fashion and Brand Marketing alongside International Sports Management.
Gecsek initially remained in Hungary to complete her studies when Szoboszlai headed to Liverpool, though whether that factored into their split remains unknown. She did show an interest in his football journey, once taking a dig at Romeo Lavia for choosing Chelsea over Liverpool.
A Reds supporter posted a collage on Instagram showing Lavia on Chelsea’s bench and Szoboszlai celebrating for Liverpool. The captions read “Playing for money” under Lavia and “Playing for passion” under Szoboszlai. Gecsek liked the post, which fans quickly noticed.
Following Wednesday’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Szoboszlai and his Liverpool teammates now prepare for Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield.
Since moving from RB Leipzig in 2023, Szoboszlai has become integral to Liverpool, with boss Arne Slot valuing him at £100million.
Slot highlighted Szoboszlai when defending the Reds’ heavy summer spending, during which they invested £450m on eight arrivals while making back £250m through sales.
He said: “There’s too much focus on our signings, especially from pundits tied to rival clubs who can’t stop mentioning £450m.
“I’ll say it again — £450m! But they ignore the fact we sold players for nearly £300m. If we decided to sell Dominik Szoboszlai tomorrow, his price would be £100m too.”
