Renowned NBA head coach Jason Kidd is well-known for his defensive prowess and, more significantly, his influence on the game of basketball. Born in San Francisco, California, on March 23, 1973, Kidd attended St. Joseph Notre Dame High School before starting his basketball career.

Kidd’s love for basketball blossomed at SJND, where he quickly outplayed his opponents and attracted the attention of local and national basketball media with his prowess on the floor. Jason was a strong 6’4 point guard who helped his high school team win consecutive state titles in 1991 and 1992.

After an outstanding high school career, Kidd chose to attend UC Berkeley over offers from a number of other universities, including Arizona, Ohio State, Kentucky, and UCLA.

He was chosen as a first-team All-American, Pac-12 All-Freshman, 1992–93 Pac-10 rookie of the year, and 1993–94 Pac-10 player of the year throughout his four years as a UC Berkeley player. He also helped his team qualify for the NCAA tournament each year.

Following his retirement from competitive play, Kidd quickly made the decision to become the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets after spending nineteen seasons as an NBA player.

Jason Kidd signed a four-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks in June 2021, and he is presently halfway through that term. Kidd took over for longtime Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, who led the team to an NBA championship in 2011. Kidd was a major factor in the Mavericks’ historic first-ever championship victory.

Kidd led the Mavericks to 52 victories during the regular season in his first season in charge. He also guided them to the Western Conference finals, where Dallas was defeated by the eventual champion Golden State Warriors in a series that lasted one game to four (1-4).

Before taking the head coaching job at Dallas, Kidd served two years as assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers. When Kidd was brought into the Lakers coaching staff in 2019, his contract made him the highest-paid assistant coach in the NBA, as claimed by sources at the time.
