Milan has permanently suspended Olivier Giroud today…
The two-game punishment of Olivier Giroud has been accepted by AC Milan without an appeal. Stefano Pioli will suffer a significant loss with the striker out against Fiorentina and Frosinone, given his troubles in the No. 9 position.
Giroud has scored seven goals this season and his deputies have struggled to keep up with him. Luka Jovic is yet to find the back of the net for the Rossoneri, while Noah Okafor has two goals to his name. The Frenchman’s absence, therefore, weighs a ton.
According to today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Milan have decided not to appeal the suspension. Giroud clearly said something inappropriate to the referee, having even apologised, and lodging an appeal would consume too much time and energy.
It’s Jovic’s moment to score his first goal against Fiorentina, since he is expected to start as the striker. Of course, Okafor is a possibility, but he will need to provide left flank coverage for Rafael Leao. The Portuguese winger will not play either since he is still healing from a hamstring injury.
Giroud is expected to return against Atalanta and be available in the Champions League as well. Leao’s absence from the Dortmund match makes his participation all the more crucial.
