Ben Roethlisberger explained his emotion upon bringing Dan Rooney’s flag onto the field prior to Pittsburgh’s Week 2 victory over the Vikings.

The Steelers honored their late owner by showing a video tribute for him before kickoff. Big Ben and James Harrison also held up a flag in his honor as the team entered the field for Sunday’s game, the first home game at Heinz Field without their Hall of Fame owner.

“Coming out with the flag, honoring a man that just means so much to everyone, a guy that obviously drafted me, just everything that he’s meant,’’ Roethlisberger said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Even during the national anthem, knowing that the [Pittsburgh] symphony was out there because that was Mr. Rooney’s thing, I had tears in my eyes. I had to try to snap out of it and get ready to go.”

Harrison showed his appreciation for Rooney and the moment with the following Instagram post.

Vince Williams pointed out one thing that was different with Rooney’s absence on Sunday.
