Roughly six hours following our last update on the No.215 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Zach Evans inked his rookie contract with the Los Angeles Rams, according to multiple reports. The Houston, Texas native is one of the latest draft picks to be signed, leaving 27 more to go.

According to reports, Evans can earn $3.9 million including a $133,332 signing bonus. The former 22-year-old Rebel is expected to be in the mix in a somewhat deep, but certainly more to prove running back unit. His position group features Sony Michel and Cam Akers.

It may have taken over two months, but the former Rebel standout is now officially and contractually an NFL player. The Rams could also just take longer than others to sign their draft selections, because they still have two more picks to sign.

There is a ton of excitement surrounding Evans within the Rams organization and in the national media. Don’t forget the Rams actually traded up to select Evans, obviously they saw something in him that maybe no one else did.

“It means a lot, man. I mean, it shows how much they believed in me,” Evans said after being selected. “I’m ready to get to work. I’m ready to give the team everything I’ve got. I’m ready to showcase my talents. I’m just real thankful to be here, real grateful.”

The 2022 season was his first and only season with the Ole Miss Rebels as a junior, after transferring from TCU. Evans was a vital piece to Ole Miss’ dynamic rush attack, which ranked third in the entire country. Evans rushed for 936 yards, nine touchdowns and added 119 receiving yards along with a score. With Quinshon Judkins returning and only elevating his role on the team, Evans elected to leave Oxford early and declare for the 2023 NFL Draft.

How would Evans reflect and describe his brief stint in Oxford?

“Majority on my end, it just taught me how to respond to things I can’t control,” Evans said about his time in Oxford, per Rams.com. “I mean, everything is a lesson, you go through what you go through for a reason. Like I said man, I’m ready to get to work. It’s been a long journey for me. I’ve been praying, I’ve been staying, I’ve been training the whole time, and I’m just glad I got the opportunity.”

In case you missed our last report on Evans earlier this month, here’s what his new head coach had to say about him during the Rams’ OTA period.

“I think he has a nice skillset that compliments Cam (Akers). I thought he did a great job at Ole Miss, but even some of the stuff going back to TCU where he’s taking more handoffs out of the pistol, you could really see he’s a smooth runner,” Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters in May.
