Steelers: The NFL fired head coach Mike Tomlin today because of…
That one loss every season that leaves you wondering how he hasn’t been fired yet.
Flavell’s Five Thoughts: It’s Tomlin Time
In Week 4, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ shortcomings were clearly seen. Is the head coach receiving excessive protection?
Shameful. Not ready. dishonest. The Pittsburgh Steelers were humiliated 30–6 by the Houston Texans, a loss that might be described in a million bad ways. Nothing went well for Pittsburgh, and I cannot emphasize this enough; their starting quarterback was also sidelined by injury.
While there have been many games deemed the “worst” in the Mike Tomlin era, this one very well may be. Last season, the Texans were among the poorest teams in the league. Their head coach is a rookie. In their first three games of the season, their rushing assault was dreadful. The Steelers didn’t get a single sack even with four of their starting offensive lineman out of the game.
Speaking of Tomlin, he is where our focus is going to start.
It’s Time to Talk Tomlin
Look, it’s very easy to like Mike Tomlin as a figurehead. Listening to him speak his way around questions without saying anything at all truly is a spectacle. The old “Tomlinisms” are always hilarious but at some point, football results are what matter, and the facts are these:
Two playoff wins since 2016, both coming that season.
– A lifeless offense since the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger.
– Not only a retention but continued endorsement of offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
– A star-studded defense that leaves a lot to be desired more often than not.
– That one loss every season that leaves you wondering how he hasn’t been fired yet.
