For the second year in a row, the Las Vegas Raiders used an early-round draft pick on a tight end.
Last year, they took Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer early in the second round, and on Thursday they selected Georgia’s Brock Bowers with the 13th overall pick.
Bowers wasn’t at the draft in Detroit, but he was surrounded by friends and family when the pick was revealed.
Bowers’ girlfriend, Cameron Rose Newell, captured the moment with a few photos on Instagram, sending a kind message to the new Las Vegas Raider.

Bowers and Newell have been together since 2021, and she attends the University of Tennessee.
Despite the Georgia-Tennessee rivalry, the two have managed to make things work in the very competitive SEC.
Bowers heads to the NFL after a decorated college career. He won back-to-back national titles at Georgia, two straight Mackey Awards as the nation’s best tight end, and he was a three-time All-American.
The Raiders are looking to make it back to the playoffs after promoting Antonio Pierce to the full-time head coaching position.
Pierce took over on an interim basis last year after Josh McDaniels was fired, and the locker room rallied around him for an impressive finish to the year.
