This summer, the Jacksonville Jaguars were quite busy, signing key players to both sides of the ball and starting over with the defensive staff.

The seasoned and accomplished defensive tackle Ariki Armstead was one of the team’s key defensive additions. With the 17th overall choice in the 2015 draft, Armstead was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers.

He had a fantastic nine-year career in San Francisco, accumulating 33.5 sacks, 43 tackles for loss, 88 quarterback hits, and 302 total tackles. Despite his lack of talent, Armstead has qualities that the Jaguars may find very useful.

“[Armstead is bringing] their success and his experience from living in San Francisco. During mandatory minicamp, head coach Doug Pederson told reporters, “Bringing that experience to us and to some of our young players, and what that looks like, that leadership is going to be vital.” In 2023, Armstead suffered a knee injury, but he refused to let it stop him.

Despite having a meniscus tear, he participated in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Armstead’s meniscus repair went well, according to Pederson, and he will be ready for training camp.

Although Armstead’s presence at training camp would be appreciated, his contributions during the regular season will be more significant.

The defensive acquisition, in Pederson’s opinion, can make the difference for the club when it matters most. “To ensure that what happened last year doesn’t happen again, I’m looking down in December and January at what it [Armstead’s impact] looks like towards the conclusion of the season.

Such kind of individuals are what you need. I’m limited in what I can say, but when you give it to the players and men who have experienced it firsthand, you can expect more from them,” Pederson continued.
