Clark is receiving unprecedented attention from fans, media and sponsors alike — sparking what some view as “jealously” around the WNBA world.

During a recent episode of “The Big Podcast,” NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal explained why he thinks players are upset with Clark’s arrival in the league.

So I think where people get upset is, as a player, you don’t want to be forgotten,” O’Neal said.

“It’s professional jealousy. I think people should focus more on not just her, cause she is a great player, but don’t forget about the beautiful (Kamilla) Cardoso and my girl, Angel (Reese).”

Earlier this month, Angel Reese made headlines when she said the recent rise in WNBA popularity is “because of me, too.”

“The reason why we’re watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person. It’s because of me, too. I want y’all to realize that,” Reese told reporters

The Chicago Sky rookie later went on to give credit to the talented veteran players that came before her and this year’s rookie class.

“The WNBA girls are letting (Clark) know. … One person may have all the props, but it’s never one person,” O’Neal said earlier in the podcast. “Don’t say ‘We’re getting new sponsorships because of Caitlin.’ What about Angel (Reese)? What about (Kamilla) Cardoso? What about my favorite, Kelsey Plum?”

Clark and the Fever will face off against the Atlanta Dream on Friday night.
