Rui Hachimura, Yuta Watanabe, Josh Hawkinson, and Yuri Kawamura lead Japan’s 16-man basketball roster for the Olympics.

 

Japan announced their preliminary roster for men’s basketball in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

 

Players such as Rui Hachimura, Yuta Watanabe, Josh Hawkinson, and Yuri Kawamura have committed to the national team.

 

Hachimura, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, is returning to the national team after missing the 2023 FIBA World Cup. ‘

 

As for Watanabe, the shooter spent the majority of the 2023-24 season with the Phoenix Suns. After he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in February 2024, he declined his player option and is now expected to sign with Chiba Jets in Japan, according to BasketNews’ Donatas Urbonas.

 

Other players in the roster include Keisei Tominaga, Yuki Togashi, and Makoto Hiejima.

 

Japan qualified directly for the Olympics after being the best-performing team from Asia in the latest World Cup. They finished 19th overall in that competition.

 

The team led by American coach Tom Hovasse will face off against France, Germany, and the winner of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Latvia in Group B.

 

Men’s basketball in the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place between 27 July and 11 August.
