According to Dak Prescott, the veteran quarterback’s deal is being worked on by both parties as of Thursday.
Stephen Jones, executive vice president of the Cowboys, reiterated it on Friday.
With the Cowboys playing the Browns on Sunday, there isn’t much time left to close a deal for the season opener.
Prescott seemed to be saying that was his deadline a week ago.
Jones was questioned on 105.3. The Fan whether they could close a deal in the next two days. According to Jon Machota of
Jones stated, “Yeah, I hope that’s a possibility.”
We keep having fruitful meetings and conversations. We’ll carry on working. What would happen then if a deal couldn’t be reached by Sunday?
Prescott is expected to enter free agency in March, at which point a bidding war for his services will reportedly start. Jones declared, “I’m not going to get into hypotheticals.”
“We’re putting in a lot of effort, keeping an eye on the prize, and we’ll wait and see.” I am aware that Dak and our squad are focused on defeating the Browns in the interim.
After two years of talks, Prescott was ultimately signed by the Cowboys to a second contract in 2021.
At the conclusion of this season, the four-year, $160 million contract comes to an end.
The Cowboys have stated repeatedly that they hope and expect to sign their starting quarterback to a long-term deal before he becomes a free agent.
However, they do not have a quarterback under contract for 2025 and no backup plan in case Prescott left.
