Here is the Detroit Lions’ injury report for Week 1.
On Sunday night, the Detroit Lions will host the Los Angeles Rams in a replay of their Wild Card Round meeting from the previous season.
Many of their injury concerns from training camp and the preseason have subsided, and as is customary before the first game, the Week 1 injury report is brief.
The Lions’ official Week 1 injury report is available here, along with the Sunday night game statuses.
S Loren Strickland Excluded (thumb) S Ifeatu Melifonwu—a doubtful ankle DT DJ Reader (quadricep): a contentious After the preseason finale, head coach Dan Campbell gave Melifonwu hazy signals regarding the issue he was dealing with, which initially raised questions about his availability for the season opener.
According to a recent update this week, it was an Achilles’ heel of sorts (Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reported).
Melifonwu’s doubtful listing makes it extremely unlikely that he will play on Sunday night, as Campbell stated on Friday morning.
On Friday morning, Campbell had greater optimism about Reader.
Due to his recovery from a damaged quad tendon, the Lions’ top free agency signing was sidelined during training camp.
Although playing in Week 2 has been the plan, the season opener was never completely ruled out.
being categorized as dubious As could be expected, Campbell said that Reader would probably be on a snap count if he were to play against the Rams. “In practice, he did look pretty good,” Campbell remarked.
“Now, the only question is: If he plays, to what extent?
And if he accomplishes that, will he be able to obtain a little bit more the next week, or are we just going to sit back and sort of get along for the time being? However, he’s doing better every day, and yesterday was a wonderful day because he took a lot more.”
Strickland, the Ball State undrafted rookie who surprised everyone by earning a spot on the 53-man roster, did not practice this week and will not be available on Sunday night. The Lions have three healthy safety on the active roster:
Brandon Joseph, Brian Branch, and Kerby Joseph. Melifonwu and Strickland are probably both out.
Although Erick Hallett has only been with the organization for a little over a week, he is a potential upgrade for the practice squad. Here is the Rams’ injury report for the first week.
OL Jonah Jackson—no designation—shoulder Knee:
WR Puka Nacua – No classification OL Rob Havenstein—questionable—(ankle) CB Cobie Durant—
no designation—hamstring CB Tre’Davious White (not related to an injury or rest): No classification.
Starting cornerback Darious Williams of the Rams was noticeably placed on injured reserve on Thursday after he “re-tweaked” a hamstring ailment. Los Angeles’s offensive line appears to be a weak point.
This week, Alaric Jackson, a left tackle, will serve the first of a two-game ban.
After missing the majority of training camp due to a shoulder injury, former Lion Jackson will start at center, and right tackle Havenstein is classified as questionable.
