Puka Nacua is set to go on Injured Reserve following a recurrence of his knee injury from the preseason. Steve Avila, who has an MCL sprain, may also be placed on IR. Joe Noteboom and Kevin Dotson’s injury statuses are also being monitored.
On Monday, Rams head coach Sean McVay announced that wide receiver Puka Nacua’s knee injury, which occurred during Sunday night’s game against the Lions, is a PCL sprain.
This injury will place Nacua on Injured Reserve (IR), meaning he will be out for at least four games.
McVay explained that this injury is a re-aggravation of the knee issue Nacua sustained during last month’s joint practice with the Chargers, now more severe than before.
Additionally, offensive lineman Steve Avila suffered an MCL sprain in the game against the Lions and may also be placed on IR.
McVay noted that Avila attempted to return to the field on the first play of the second half, but the Rams’ medical staff had to prevent him from continuing.
McVay praised Avila’s determination, saying, “It’s a credit to how much he wants to be out there,” and acknowledged the situation had the team’s Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance, Reggie Scott, concerned.
Offensive lineman Joe Noteboom is dealing with a high ankle sprain, which will keep him out for several weeks, according to McVay.
Cobie Durant is considered day-to-day with a toe injury, and Kevin Dotson is also day-to-day due to a lateral ankle sprain.
