The Panthers have reached an agreement with the former Lions sack leader.

Former Detroit Lions defensive end Charles Harris, who led the team in sacks in 2021, is set to join the Carolina Panthers. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report this development.Harris will move to the Panthers after spending three seasons with the Lions, where he appeared in 36 games (21 starts) and accumulated 92 tackles, 10 sacks, and three forced fumbles.

His most notable season was in 2021, his debut year with the Lions, during which he achieved a career-high 65 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 17 games (14 starts). This performance led to a two-year, $14 million contract extension. However, a groin injury significantly affected his 2022 season, limiting him to just six games.

Prior to the 2023 season, Harris agreed to a contract restructuring that included a $3 million salary reduction to remain with the Lions. When his contract ended in 2023, the Lions opted not to renew it, likely prioritizing younger talents like Josh Paschal and James Houston.

The team also added former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Marcus Davenport, indicating Harris’ exit.

On August 30, reports indicated that the Panthers were looking to enhance their pass rush, and Harris had worked out with the team the day before.

Besides his tenure in Detroit, Harris has also played for the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins, who drafted him 22nd overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.
