Detroit Lions

Kelly Stafford’s decision to skip the Rams’ game against the Detroit Lions stems from an earlier incident that occurred during the NFC Wild Card Game in January 2024.

Kelly Stafford, wife of quarterback Matthew Stafford, was notably absent from the Los Angeles Rams’ Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions.

The game, held at Ford Field, ended with the Lions winning 26-20 in overtime, thanks to a decisive 1-yard touchdown run by David Montgomery.

The Lions initially dominated with a 17-3 lead, highlighted by a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Jameson Williams.

The Rams fought back, with Stafford connecting with Cooper Kupp for a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

However, a 32-yard field goal by Jake Bates tied the game, leading to overtime where the Lions won the coin toss and quickly moved the ball to score the winning touchdown.

Kelly Stafford chose not to attend this game due to a previous experience during the NFC Wild Card Game in January 2024, when she and her children faced boos from the crowd.

This experience deeply upset her, as she felt her children were impacted by the negative atmosphere.

Kelly explained that the emotional strain of being in the sports spotlight and dealing with such negativity made it difficult for her family, influencing her decision to stay away from the game.
