Detroit Lions

The Lions are expected to find more ways to involve Amon-Ra St. Brown in their offense as the season progresses.

Amon-Ra St. Brown had a rough start in Week 1, catching only three passes for 13 yards on six targets against the Los Angeles Rams.

Given St. Brown’s consistent performance over recent seasons, such a down game is notable. The Rams clearly focused on neutralizing him, a strategy that’s common for elite receivers.

The standout performance of Jameson Williams also signaled to future opponents that St. Brown is a focal point of the Lions’ offense.

Head coach Dan Campbell addressed St. Brown’s limited involvement during a Monday press conference.

Campbell acknowledged that the team made efforts to involve St. Brown, but various factors, including effective coverage and some mishaps on plays, contributed to his modest stats.

Campbell reassured that St. Brown remains a crucial part of their game plan and emphasized that the team will find ways to better integrate him in future games.

Jared Goff, the Lions’ quarterback, had a relatively off day with just 28 pass attempts.

He admitted that the passing game lacked rhythm, a point Campbell reiterated on a Tuesday radio appearance.

Campbell explained that the precision of the passing game is often the last element to come together due to the complex coordination required between the quarterback, receivers, tight ends, and protection schemes.

Overall, St. Brown’s off day is seen as an anomaly rather than a trend, with minimal concern about his future performance.

The expectation is that he will bounce back, potentially having a stronger showing in the upcoming game against Tampa Bay.
