Lions Advised to Trade Player Who Was Inactive for the First Game

Sometimes a player may not fit well within their current scheme, leading to them being overlooked in favor of players the coaching staff trusts more.During a press conference on September 11, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was questioned about James Houston’s potential to be active in upcoming games. Campbell explained, “A lot of it depends on whether it’s him or another defensive back.

What’s more beneficial for us? Special teams play a big role in this decision. Other factors include injuries in different positions that might necessitate having him available.

It’s also about the potential production he can offer and how many snaps he would get. It’s hard to provide a definitive answer right now, but he’s working hard and we’d like to get him in if the opportunity arises. We’ll see how things unfold.”

Brad Berreman of SideLion Report, in a September 11 article, remarked on Campbell’s comments, suggesting that it appears unlikely Houston will be active for the game against the Buccaneers. Phrases like “he’s another guy” and “he’s here, he’s working” seem less than enthusiastic and often indicate that there isn’t much positive to say.

This has raised questions about why Houston made the 53-man roster in the first place.Berreman noted that

Houston was not expected to contribute in Week 1 and this trend seems to continue into Week 2. The decision to keep him on the roster is becoming increasingly questionable.

If Houston remains inactive for another game, it is likely that Campbell will face tougher scrutiny regarding this choice.
