Stephen A. Smith poked fun at the Cowboys following their Week 2 blowout defeat against the Saints.
Football traditions are rich and varied, from Carrie Underwood’s “Sunday Night Football” song and Thanksgiving turkey legs to the iconic Lambeau Leap.
Among these, a growing tradition has emerged: the Dallas Cowboys’ frequent, baffling losses followed by Stephen A. Smith’s memorable trolling.
The Cowboys, despite their success, often find themselves losing in inexplicable ways. This week’s example was a surprising 44-19 defeat at home to the New Orleans Saints, a game where Dallas was heavily favored.
Although the Saints had shown promise in their Week 1 game against the Carolina Panthers, Cowboys fans were optimistic after a strong season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
Stephen A. Smith, known for his sports commentary on ESPN, wasted no time seizing the opportunity to mock the Cowboys.
He posted a video on Twitter/X of himself laughing, setting the stage for his Monday shows, *First Take* and *The Stephen A. Smith Show*. In the video, he teased his viewers, making it clear he was eager to dissect the Cowboys’ latest failure.
On Monday, Smith’s *First Take* segment began with him smirking and greeting the audience with an exaggerated “Howdy! How do you do on this beautiful Monday morning?”
He cleverly mocked the Cowboys’ defensive performance by joking about a fictitious city called “Allas” and suggesting removing the “D” from “Dallas” to address their defensive issues. The Cowboys’ defense had failed to force the Saints to punt throughout the game, which Smith used as a basis for his jabs.
A lifelong New York sports fan and occasional Pittsburgh Steelers supporter, Smith’s delight in the Cowboys’ misfortunes is unsurprising, given the historical rivalry and the teams’ past Super Bowl encounters.
