Lions coach Dan Campbell acknowledges the Arizona Cardinals’ complexity.

The Detroit Lions have had an exciting start to their 2024 season.

They secured a hard-fought victory over the Los Angeles Rams in overtime and nearly clinched another win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With Super Bowl aspirations, Dan Campbell’s team is now set to hit the road for the first time this year to face an Arizona Cardinals squad that delivered a standout performance in Week 2.“The way they play, both offensively and defensively, is challenging,” he said.

“They run various schemes that aren’t exactly unorthodox, but they provide a lot of options.

They’re very active on the line. Offensively, they utilize multiple personnel groups and play with physicality.”

Campbell went on to run through the main pieces on the Arizona   offense.

The quarterback is definitely a threat when he runs around,” Campbell said.

“He’s always been that way, and they have some strong targets to throw to. Their backfield is formidable.

”Campbell’s reference to Kyler Murray is timely, especially after his impressive off-schedule play against the Rams in a 41-10 win. Arizona also established a strong running game, with James Conner rushing for 122 yards on 21 carries.

The “heavy” mention refers to both the 233-pound Conner and 223-pound rookie Trey Benson, two powerful runners with distinct skill sets.

Campbell recognizes that the “tricky” aspects of the Cardinals’ offense extend beyond their use of 12 and 13 personnel, highlighting how defensive coordinator Nick Rallis varies the schemes.“

Defensively, they can present multiple front looks and coverages, so you have to be alert,” he said.

“The silver lining is that we just faced a team with a lot of different defensive looks, so we should be well-prepared to adjust on the fly.”
