FEMA Apologizes for Mistakenly Labeling Saints’ Decisive Win Over Cowboys a ‘Major Disaster’ in Email
The Saints improved to 2-0 this season with a dominant win over the Cowboys last weekend, and FEMA had to issue an apology after mistakenly sending out a press release that called the lopsided game a “major disaster.”
Few expected the New Orleans Saints to be contenders entering the 2024 NFL season. While it’s early to declare them The Real Deal, they’ve shown plenty of promise so far.
Their 47-10 win over a notably dysfunctional Carolina Panthers team in Week 1 doesn’t hold much weight.
However, their statement win on the road against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday was hard to ignore, with a 44-19 blowout. Derek Carr passed for 243 yards and two touchdowns (and ran in one on a QB sneak), while Alvin Kamara scored three times on the ground and caught one of Carr’s throws.
According to The New Orleans Advocate, FEMA took inspiration from that game for a training exercise, resulting in a press release Thursday titled “President Daniel Largues Declares Major Disaster After Saints Beat Cowboys in Dallas,” mocking the Cowboys with a note that read:
“FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to the state of Texas to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 15, 2024.”
FEMA quickly issued an apology, clarifying that the email was sent in error and was for “training purposes only.”
While New Orleans residents may not have warm feelings toward FEMA after Hurricane Katrina, Saints fans likely appreciated the humor.
