The Detroit Lions are facing some injury challenges as they prepare for their Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Two defensive backs have been officially ruled out, and four players are listed as questionable.
One of the sidelined players is safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, who will miss his third straight game due to an ankle injury.
It’s uncertain when he might return, but he could potentially be available for the Lions’ Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks on September 30.
Cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. has also been ruled out because of a hamstring injury, having not practiced all week and being a healthy scratch before last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Linebacker Alex Anzalone suffered a concussion during the loss to the Bucs. He missed Wednesday’s practice but was limited in his participation on Thursday and Friday.
If he is unable to play, Jack Campbell is expected to step in for him.
Defensive back Mike Arnold missed practices on Wednesday and Thursday due to an illness but returned on Friday.
However, the Lions’ cornerback situation remains precarious, as Rakestraw is out and Arnold’s limited practice participation raises concerns.
Kindle Vildor may take on an outside corner position, along with Amik Robertson as a potential option. On the offensive line, Graham Glasgow was limited in practices on Thursday and Friday but is expected to be available for Sunday’s game.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs is dealing with an abdominal injury that kept him out of last week’s game.
Even if he were healthy, his role as a depth player suggests he might not play.
For the Cardinals, three players are listed as questionable: defensive lineman Dante Stills (shoulder), wide receiver Greg Dortch (hamstring), and offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum (hamstring).
