The Dallas Cowboys are in urgent need of pass-rushing support following injuries to Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence during their game against the New York Giants on Thursday night.
Both players are expected to be sidelined longer than initially thought after evaluations revealed more serious injuries. Lawrence’s foot injury is more severe than Parsons’ ankle sprain.
With their top pass rushers out just before a series of tough games against last season’s playoff teams, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Cowboys are considering external options for assistance. However, Haason Reddick is not a viable choice due to his cost.
“The Cowboys are examining external pass-rushing options with Micah Parsons (high left ankle sprain) and DeMarcus Lawrence (right midfoot sprain) unavailable, but they will initially focus on in-house solutions,” Fowler noted. “There’s hope that Parsons can return sooner rather than later…
(Regarding external options, I’m informed that Haason Reddick from the Jets isn’t a feasible trade target due to cost concerns.
)”Reddick was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New York Jets this offseason but has been holding out this season after failing to agree on a contract extension.
While Reddick remains the top pass-rushing target on the trade market, the expense of acquiring him is too high for the Cowboys this season and in the long run.
Additionally, Dallas’ front office has not yet extended Parsons’ contract.
Though Reddick isn’t a candidate, it’s expected that the Cowboys will be connected to other notable, yet more affordable, defensive ends following Fowler’s report.
The team is seeking ways to bolster their defense as they navigate a challenging schedule ahead.
