Dallas cowboys

DeMarcus Lawrence of the Cowboys is currently dealing with a Lisfranc injury, which suggests he will probably be placed on injured reserve.

DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons both exited the Cowboys’ Week 4 victory, and their injuries could leave Dallas short-handed along the edge for a significant time. While Parsons’ recovery timeline remains unclear, Lawrence’s situation is more defined.

Lawrence is dealing with a Lisfranc injury, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

The affected bones were not displaced, which means he won’t require surgery. Despite this positive news, Archer notes a recovery period of four to eight weeks is expected. This makes Lawrence a likely candidate for injured reserve.

If placed on IR, he would be guaranteed at least a four-week absence, and given the prognosis, the Cowboys may choose this route for Lawrence.

As a four-time Pro Bowler leading the team with three sacks this season, his absence will be significant, particularly with Parsons also expected to miss time. Additionally, with Sam Williams out for the year, Chauncey Golston and Marshawn Kneeland will need to take on heavier roles.

The free agent market for veteran edge rushers is currently limited, and while Haason Reddick is a potential trade target due to his Jets holdout, Dallas has shown no interest in pursuing him. Thus, the team will rely on internal options to step up for Lawrence and Parsons during this period.

Although the Cowboys’ defense performed well in their Thursday night win against the Giants, the ongoing injury issues raise concerns for the unit moving forward.

Lawrence has been a full-time starter for several years, and the last time he faced a long absence was in 2021. As a pending free agent, his future may hinge on how the Cowboys manage a Parsons extension next offseason.

A lengthy injury could affect Lawrence’s market value, but he is expected to return later in the season.
