Kurt Warner Challenges NFL Referees Over Controversial Call in Lions vs. Seahawks Match

The Seattle Seahawks faced their first defeat of the 2024-25 NFL season in Week 4, losing to the Detroit Lions on “Monday Night Football.”

The Lions secured a 42-29 victory, but the game was marred by a controversial officiating decision that frustrated fans and former players alike.

In the second half, Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett was penalized for offensive pass interference, which derailed Seattle’s drive.

Lockett had collided with a defensive back, inadvertently creating space for Jaxon Smith-Njigba to catch a pass and gain a first down.

However, the penalty negated the play, forcing the Seahawks off the field and missing a crucial scoring opportunity.

Following this incident, former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner voiced his strong disapproval of the officiating on social media.

He explained the situation, emphasizing that it was inappropriate to call offensive pass interference in this case.

“You just can’t call an offensive pass interference if the guy covering you stops you on your route and the defender runs into you!”Warner stated.

He argued that for a penalty to be justified, a player must intentionally make contact or deviate from their route.

Warner had a distinguished NFL career from 1998 to 2009, playing for the St. Louis Rams, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Giants.

He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and won a Super Bowl early in his career, eventually being inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Since retiring, Warner has also gained recognition as an NFL analyst, first joining the NFL Network in 2010 and becoming a full-time radio analyst in 2018.With over 635,000 followers on X, Warner’s opinions carry weight in the football community.

His tweet regarding the officiating garnered over 70,000 views in just a few hours.

While the officiating crew may not have shared Warner’s perspective, he firmly believed they made a significant error in judgment during the game.
