Jared Goff shines in a perfect outing for the Lions, including a 70-yard completion to Jameson Williams.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff achieved a remarkable feat by completing all 18 of his passes in a 42-29 win against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.
His performance included a significant 70-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jameson Williams, contributing to his total of 292 passing yards.
Goff and Williams have established a strong connection, combining for five touchdowns in regular-season play, each spanning at least 32 yards.
The touchdown on Monday night surpassed a previous 52-yard touchdown they executed in the Lions’ season-opening 26-20 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
With just 2:52 left in the third quarter, Williams’ touchdown propelled Detroit to a 35-20 advantage.
Goff later threw his second touchdown of the game, an 8-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown with 5:23 remaining, increasing the Lions’ lead to 42-27.
Notably, Goff made history as the first player in NFL history to throw over 10 passes in a game without any incompletions.
In an unusual twist, Goff also caught a touchdown pass himself, receiving a 7-yard throw from St. Brown.
The Lions balanced their offense effectively, not solely relying on the passing game.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs, also an Alabama alumnus like Williams, rushed for 78 yards and scored two touchdowns on 14 carries.
Gibbs found the end zone with a 3-yard run early in the first half and followed up with a 1-yard run later in the half.
Williams concluded the game with two catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.
On the Seahawks’ side, quarterback Geno Smith completed 38 of 56 passes for 395 yards, along with one touchdown and one interception.
Running back Kenneth Walker had a strong showing, rushing for 80 yards and scoring three touchdowns on 12 carries, while wide receiver DK Metcalf recorded seven receptions for 104 yards.
The game also highlighted the presence of several players from Alabama high schools and colleges.
For the Lions, Terrion Arnold (Alabama) started at cornerback, making five tackles and breaking up one pass. Brian Branch (Alabama) was inactive for the game due to a concussion.
Carlton Davis (Auburn) also started at cornerback for the Lions, contributing with seven tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups, and a fumble recovery. Davis’s fumble return of 49 yards set up the Lions’ second touchdown, marking the fifth-longest fumble return by an Auburn alumnus in the NFL.
On the Seahawks’ defense, Derick Hall (Auburn) started at outside linebacker and recorded four tackles, including one sack.
Josh Jobe (Alabama) was on the practice squad and ineligible to play, while Lions defensive tackle Brodric Martin (Northridge, North Alabama) was on injured reserve.
Nehemiah Pritchett (Jackson, Auburn) did not record any stats for the Seahawks, while Jarran Reed (Alabama) started at defensive end for Seattle,
contributing with four tackles and one sack.Overall, the game showcased exceptional performances from both teams, particularly from Goff, Williams, and Gibbs, while also featuring the talents of several players with Alabama connections.
