DaRon Bland has a genuine opportunity to play against Detroit on Sunday.

After missing the first five games of the season due to a stress fracture in his foot, cornerback DaRon Bland may have the opportunity to make his 2024 season debut this Sunday against the Lions. Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones indicated that Bland might play a limited role when the team faces Detroit at AT&T Stadium.

“I believe DaRon Bland has a real chance to contribute.

While I’m not sure if he’ll play the entire game, I think he’s ready to get involved,” Jones stated on Tuesday.

“Barring any significant setback, DaRon should be prepared to suit up and assist us on defense, particularly in the secondary.”

Last season, Bland led the NFL with nine interceptions, setting a single-season record with five returned for touchdowns.

He sustained his injury two weeks prior to the season’s start, which led to the Cowboys placing him on IR-to return, requiring him to miss the first four games.

Although he wasn’t ready to come back for last week’s game against the Steelers, there’s hope for his return this Sunday against Detroit.

The Lions present a formidable passing attack featuring Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and tight end Sam LaPorta.

During Bland’s absence, the Cowboys have utilized three different cornerbacks over the five games. Rookie Caelen Carson started the first three before suffering a shoulder injury.

In the last two games, Andrew Booth and Amani Oruwariye have each taken turns starting alongside Trevon Diggs.

As the team prepares for the Lions, Bland’s potential return could significantly bolster their defensive efforts.
