Lions QB Jared Goff named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after a flawless performance.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week following his outstanding performance on “Monday Night Football” against the Seattle Seahawks.
In that game, Goff achieved an incredible 18-of-18 completion rate for 292 yards and two touchdowns, setting an NFL record for the most completions in a game without any incompletions.
“He found his rhythm early and really saw the field well,” said head coach Dan Campbell.
“He had to move a bit in the pocket, and I thought what sparked him was a play where he got spun around but managed to connect with (Jameson) Williams for a first down. That was a turning point for him.”
Additionally, Goff caught a touchdown pass from Amon-Ra St. Brown on a well-executed trick play, marking a personal milestone.
“I think that’s my first touchdown catch ever,” Goff remarked, recalling his experiences since age seven.
This marks the sixth time Goff has received this honor, with three of those coming during his time with the Lions.
His previous NFC Offensive Player of the Week award was in Week 6 of last year, when he threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns against the Buccaneers.
The Lions have now won a weekly award for two consecutive weeks. Last week, punter Jack Fox was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week following his impressive performance against the Cardinals.
It could have been three in a row, but linebacker Aidan Hutchinson was surprisingly not recognized as NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 2 despite recording 4.5 sacks.
Overall, Goff’s performance has highlighted his skills and contributed significantly to the Lions’ success this season.
