In recent weeks, the Cowboys’ defense has been significantly impacted by injuries, with key players Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, and rookie Marshawn Kneeland all dealing with issues.
It’s particularly concerning to have all three pass rushers sidelined, especially against a Lions offense known for scoring quickly.
On a positive note, All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland is set to return after starting the season on injured reserve due to a stress fracture in his foot.
However, the situation on the defensive line remains challenging, as Parsons is likely to be unavailable.
He is still recovering from a high-ankle sprain he sustained in Week 4 against the New York Giants.
ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Parsons did some light rehab for his ankle injury on Thursday, suggesting he may miss another game.
The Cowboys managed to win without Parsons in their recent matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, largely due to the strong performance of second-year defensive end Tyrus Wheat.
Wheat stepped in for Kneeland, who was carted off in the first quarter.
Wheat, 24, had a productive game, recording three total tackles, a tackle for loss, a quarterback hit, and half a sack.
The Cowboys will be counting on Wheat to deliver another strong performance against one of the NFL’s top offensive lines this Sunday.
Additionally, with a bye week in Week 7, there’s a chance Parsons could return for a crucial NFC clash against the San Francisco 49ers.
However, the Cowboys must focus on defeating the Lions first at AT&T Stadium.
