Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Receives Strong Response from Radio Hosts After Threats

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones created controversy by threatening to fire two radio hosts from the Dallas area after they questioned him during an interview, particularly regarding the team’s lackluster performance and roster changes following their 3-3 start.

During a Tuesday morning segment on 105.3 The Fan’s “Shan and RJ,” Jones was confronted about not signing any top free agents this offseason and his overall failure to enhance the Cowboys’ roster, especially after losing key players like running back Tony Pollard, offensive tackle Tyron Smith, center Tyler Biadasz, defensive end Dorance Armstrong, and cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Rather than accept responsibility, Jones became defensive, pointing fingers and escalating the situation with threats to fire the hosts, which they found unsettling.

“It’s really insulting and demeaning, and it came out of nowhere,” said Shan Shariff on Wednesday’s show, noting their long history of interviewing Jones over the past 14 years.

RJ Choppy echoed this sentiment, stating, “I didn’t get upset, but it was like, ‘You know what? Screw you, man.’”

Shariff emphasized that despite their show being the flagship station for the Cowboys, which grants them certain privileges such as access to Jones and head coach Mike McCarthy, it’s Audacy that pays their salaries not Jones himself.

This misunderstanding about who compensates them may have contributed to Jones’s aggressive reaction during the interview.

Jones expressed his frustration, saying, “If I’m going to be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying. I can handle it from fans or other people.”

He suggested that if the questions had come from genuine fans or knowledgeable football analysts, his response might have been different.

Overall, the incident highlights the tensions between Jones and the media, especially when it comes to accountability for the team’s performance.
