The Detroit Lions have emerged as a top destination in the NFL for players focused on winning, positioning them well to seek a quality replacement for injured defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.
However, as the November 5 trade deadline approaches, players have less control than during the offseason. For example, Las Vegas Raiders star edge rusher Maxx Crosby, a Michigan native, can’t simply choose to join the Lions. Nonetheless, Detroit can reach out to Las Vegas with a significant offer to capitalize on their current championship window.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested on October 16 that the Lions should consider inquiring about Crosby, especially given the Raiders’ 2-4 start. He expressed skepticism about Las Vegas parting with him, but deemed it worth a call.
If the Lions want the Raiders to take them seriously, they may need to propose an offer that indicates they are genuinely interested in making a deal. FanDuel’s official X account suggested one such offer on October 16.
“The Lions bring Maxx Crosby home. The Raiders get TWO 1st-rounders,” FanDuel tweeted. “Should Detroit & Las Vegas make this trade after Aidan Hutchinson’s injury?”
Crosby, born an hour outside Detroit, is under a four-year contract worth $94 million that extends through 2026. He has been a Pro Bowler for the past three seasons, earning Second-Team All-Pro honors in both 2021 and 2023.
At 27, Crosby has recorded 97 tackles for loss and 57.5 sacks over 88 NFL games, including 82 starts, throughout his six-year career. He is currently tied for the league lead in tackles for loss with 9 and has registered 5.5 sacks, even after missing one game due to injury.
