The Dallas Cowboys are in urgent need of support for quarterback Dak Prescott. Fortunately, there are two notable trade options for adding another wide receiver.
Following a dismal performance in Week 6, where they managed just nine points against the Detroit Lions, it’s evident that the Cowboys require reinforcements.
While Dak Prescott ranks among the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, he’s limited in what he can achieve with only a few healthy weapons, namely CeeDee Lamb, Jake Ferguson, and a struggling running back corps.
On Monday, Prescott hinted at the necessity for action from the Cowboys’ front office, stating that it’s “up to the front office” to decide on acquiring another playmaker.
Optimistic fans recall the impact of the Amari Cooper trade during the 2018 bye week, which propelled the Cowboys to a 7-2 record and a playoff appearance.
Although acquiring players like Cooper or Davante Adams is off the table this time, the Cowboys have several appealing wide receiver trade prospects as the November 5 deadline approaches.
1. Tyler Boyd
Tyler Boyd, who spent eight seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans this offseason.
Hoping for more opportunities after being overshadowed by Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in Cincinnati, Boyd’s situation in Tennessee has not worked out as anticipated.
The Titans, currently 1-4, are likely to become sellers, and Boyd has had a quiet start to the season, recording only 13 receptions for 127 yards and no touchdowns.
While these statistics are underwhelming, they aren’t entirely Boyd’s fault.
The Titans’ passing game has been one of the worst in the league, ranking just above the New England Patriots.
A trade to the Cowboys, who boast an average of 259.3 passing yards per game (third in the league), could help the 29-year-old rejuvenate his performance.
Additionally, Boyd’s cap hit is only $2.4 million this season and will decrease as the trade deadline nears, making him a financially viable option.
With over 6,100 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns in his career, Boyd presents a solid investment.
2. Mike Williams
With the addition of Davante Adams, the New York Jets now have a crowded wide receiver group that includes Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard, diminishing the need for Mike Williams.
Teams are reportedly reaching out to the Jets regarding Williams, as his role has become less significant.
At 30, Williams is likely open to a trade, especially considering his lackluster start with the Jets, where he has caught just 10 of 17 targets for 145 yards and no touchdowns.
A move to Dallas could be beneficial for him.
Known for his ability to stretch defenses, Williams could help Prescott open up the field.
Furthermore, he tends to perform better in indoor stadiums, averaging 57.8 receiving yards per game in domes compared to 49.4 in outdoor games.
Williams’ salary cap hit of $2.7 million is manageable for the Cowboys, allowing them to strengthen their roster without breaking the bank.
In summary, the Cowboys are at a crossroads and must address their wide receiver depth to support Dak Prescott effectively.
With trade options like Tyler Boyd and Mike Williams available, they have the chance to enhance their offense ahead of t
he upcoming deadline.
