Detroit Lions Insider Identifies 3 Trade Candidates to Fill Aidan Hutchinson’s Role

The Detroit Lions faced a significant setback in their Week 6 victory over the Dallas Cowboys when Defensive Player of the Year candidate Aidan Hutchinson suffered a broken leg.

This injury has sparked numerous trade rumors as the team looks for potential replacements.

One name frequently mentioned is Myles Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and edge rusher for the Cleveland Browns.

Following the trade of Amari Cooper, the Browns appear willing to part with some veteran players to acquire draft picks, especially given the financial implications of the Deshaun Watson contract.

However, the most sought-after trade target for the Lions is Maxx Crosby, an edge rusher with the Las Vegas Raiders.

A second-team All-Pro and Michigan native, Crosby has shown interest in playing for Detroit and vying for a Super Bowl title.

Despite the buzz around Crosby and Garrett, securing either player seems unlikely. Crosby has not requested a trade, and the Raiders are reluctant to let him go.

A Garrett trade would imply a rebuilding phase for Cleveland, which is also improbable.

Lions reporter Colton Pouncy from The Athletic has highlighted several other potential trade targets for Detroit to consider.

Among these are Za’Darius Smith from the Browns, Chase Young from the New Orleans Saints, and Harold Landry from the Tennessee Titans.

Smith, a 32-year-old pass rusher, is seen as a viable option as he is expected to be available before the NFL trade deadline. He could provide a significant edge threat for the Lions.

Chase Young’s fit with Detroit is more uncertain.

Currently on a one-year contract, he has had strong performances but has faced criticism for his effort levels during previous tenures with the Washington Commanders and San Francisco 49ers.

This raises doubts about whether he aligns with the Lions’ culture.

On the other hand, Landry presents a promising long-term option.

Under contract through 2026, he has recorded four sacks this season in just five games, putting him on track for a potential third double-digit sack season in his career.
