Having heard the same pledges repeatedly, it’s time to acknowledge that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is unreliable.
Every year, I fall for the hype that the Dallas Cowboys will become NFL champions, and every year, it doesn’t happen.
Every preseason, Jerry Jones unveils a new grand plan, making big promises and claiming this year will be different.
Last weekend, I sat on the couch witnessing a result I’d predicted all week; Detroit came into ‘Jerry World’ and embarrassed us.
I’ve accepted that we just aren’t good enough, and that’s okay with me.
What isn’t okay is Jerry Jones himself.
As if watching the Lions execute trick plays with their linemen wasn’t bad enough, Jones then decided to open his mouth and address the world.
After the 47-9 loss, he expressed that it was “very concerning” and “very humbling,” seemingly shocked at what he saw.
I’m not sure how he can be shocked when this team can’t block, run, or tackle.
The team’s performance is one issue I refuse to get worked up over.
What really frustrated me was Jones wanting to talk to the fans and those who cover the team closely.
Cowboys flagship radio station, 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, does an excellent job covering the Cowboys and other Dallas sports.
During his usual Tuesday segment, Jones’ anger at the questions became evident.
When asked about the lack of depth and talent, and if it related to his inactive offseason, Jones threatened the jobs of hosts Shan and RJ, saying, “I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions. I’m not kidding.”
The hosts, who ask tough questions, have made it easy for me to stop listening.
Later, Dianna Russini of The Athletic asked Jones about his reaction to the radio questions, and he remarked, “The wrong ones were doing the questioning. If those had been real fans or people who knew what they were talking about, I might have had a different answer.”
Shan and RJ are diehard Cowboys fans who cover the team daily.
For the owner to dismiss them as nobodies and question their legitimacy to ask questions is just another sign that this old man is out of touch.
For now, I’ll enjoy the beauty of the NFL and hope Dak stays healthy every time he’s on the field.
